Knox City Shopping Centre: All down hill?

I wish someone could tell me what is going on at Knox City Shopping Centre. I am alarmed at the rate shops are closing their doors, and the fact that these are shops that have been there a long time is even worse. Sadly they are replaced by shops that I have no interest or need for, and I wonder just how many others are finding the same thing. Just today I see that Dymocks is another casualty, following on the footsteps of Replace-A-Film. Obviously it’s all about rent and who will pay. But if you don’t get the mix of shops right, you won’t get the customers either!  Also, the shops that remain will get down-graded with stock allocation, so customers will get less choice and be less likely to buy the things advertised in flyers. How often do you go there with a list of things to buy but can’t find any?

Things are going to get tougher economically as people are being forced to spend less due to the cost of living going up. Whoever is overseeing this shopping centre is going to have to take a serious look at their policy because the way things are now they are not taking care of the most vital element - THE CUSTOMER.

Vote with your money and feet…I know I will, Eastland is looking more and more palatable to me.

I feel like that about Chadstone where 95% of the shops are catering for teenage girls. Fortunately living a bit closer to the City provides that much more choices and given choice I prefer Southland for a closed in complex. We have Dymocks in Elsternwick so perhaps shopping strips can provide for your needs at a push.

I’m told the rent in Chadstone is linked to the till and there is a threshold which must be met. There are dozens of shops that rarely has anyone in them so I’ve wondered how they do survive. With petrol costing $17 per 100 litres perhaps people just can’t afford to pop down “to shop” unless its necessities.

You could try writing to their Central Management as see what their projections are telling them about future trends. We’ve seen from the American experience that even shopping complexes go belly up sometimes. Perhaps its our turn,,,,

I voted with me feet some time ago. I used to park across the Mobility Shop and get my mobility scooter out of my van. Husband was able to borrow a scooter from the centre. But then the facility was moved upstairs and there were no disabled parking bays nearby. How is someone who needs a scooter supposed to walk a long way to obtain one? I am not able to take one step unaided so now Knox is out of bounds for us. I need help from hubby to get my scooter out of car so cannot drive and drop him off either.A catch 22 situation.I miss my shoppingdays at Knoz. But luckily there are other shoppingcentres.

I'm starting to identify with Grumpy Old Women. Sad really, I still feel like I'm 20.
